Mary Van Pee Wee DAAAMN!
Sunday, February 7th, 2010I flew down to Los Angeles to see the Pee Wee Herman Show live. I was able to do a set at my favorite show in LA, the Tomorrow Show, then flew out early the next morning.
I wore this outfit on the trip, and changed into a 60s dress when I performed.
Jean jacket: thrifted
Vintage Pee Wee shirt: ebay
cut-offs from old work pants
tights: F21
Boots: Paolo
The Pee Wee Show was really good. If you didn’t already know, Pee Wee Herman is a big comedy influence of mine. I loved Pee Wee’s Playhouse as a kid and Pee Wee’s Big Adventure will always be a favorite movie of mine. When I saw the HBO Special of the Pee Wee show a couple years ago, it blew me away and completely inspired me. So when I heard about the new live show I got a ticket pronto. Unfortunately my day job cut my hours and I thought I wouldn’t be able to afford to go down to LA, but I did it anyway. My only complaint was that the show wasn’t entirely new. There were a lot of new characters and bits (which were awesome) but the main story of the show was the same as the original HBO special. That was a bit disappointing for me.
Nevertheless, I will always be a Pee Wee fan. I got a picture with Paul Reubens when he was here in SF for Sketchfest in 2007:
