i heart vintage 1920s fashion
The Sacramento public library had a really fun 1920s fashion show event. Unfortunately I had to leave early, because I would’ve loved to have Oohed and Aahed over the 1920s pieces up close. The host did a great job describing each ensemble’s incredible detail. It definitely made me put “1920s” in my current obsessive searches on ebay and etsy.
I wore the one 1920s dress I own. I would’ve loved to have asked the host which year exactly it might be from. Perhaps she’ll be at the next event.
Mint green silk 1920s dress with embroidery and silk ribbon flowers: ebay (also seen on Fashion Forestry)
white heels: MIA
vintage purse: found
The library had a neat display of 1920s sheet music.
And here are my mediocre shots of the amazingly beautiful fashions:
I was pretty much dying over each incredible, colorful and amazingly detailed piece. Although the top 3 looks I posted were some of my favorites.

Wow, such gorgeous dresses! I love 20s fashion but I need some help getting started with collecting it – I’m so used to ordering dresses that hug my curves; I’m not sure what measurements I should be looking at when shopping online for 20s gear. Plus it can get really expensive… I hope I can find an event like this near me to educate myself!

I adore your dress – so pretty on you. I’d say it is 1929-1931-ish.

@Louise I know!!! It’s almost flawless! I just need to repair some small holes. I need to find some matching mint green silk to patch it with….
@Sacramento Thank you!
@Miss Emmi I am also used to ordering dresses that are more form fitting. A lot of 20s dresses are just slip-over-the-head so you need to be sure the measurements are loose enough to get into. So, yes, it’s tricky when ordering online. And yes, since I’ve been looking on ebay and etsy for 20s clothes, the prices are pretty steep. It’s just a matter of keeping persistent and waiting and looking, and at some point some pieces are bound to show up that are in your budget! I hope there are more events like this too, it was so neat!
@Lizzie Thank you! That’s what I was thinking too. It feels like it’s got a bit of 20s and 30s in it.

oh, you looked so gorgeous in that dress!! If I may be a total fashion nerd, I agree with Lizzie: I think it’s early 1930s (1931 ish). The natural waist emphasizing ties, the fluttery back “capelet” type detail, even that amazing pale eau de nil type colour: so beautiful and I think early 30s. LOVE IT!!!

Y’know, as I look again at the length and after perusing some more fashion images online, I think Lizzie is even MORE right…very possibly 1929-31. The little rosettes are so sweet and reminiscent of some 20s dresses, but as noted above, there are some more early 30s elements apparent, too. I love this often overlooked “tween” era in fashion history. One way or another I am in love with this dress, especially on YOU!

Your own dress is my absolute favourite although the others are lovely too. The colour, amazing collar and floral detail is just sooo lovely!

@Stef Thank you!
@Jill I LOVE that you’re fashion-nerd-ing out! I really love hearing what you think on it. Gee, I had to google “eau de nil” too! : ) The waist ties are definitely something I was curious about. Are those just meant to hang? I really need to do some 1929-1931 dress research now. Thanks for your comments, Jill!

Oh, what a beautiful dress! And the event looks wonderful. I love those 20s images, too

Oh, I just adore the 1920s! Your dress is lovely! I have a couple early 1920s dresses that are insanely amazing, however, I have to keep them stored because the fabric is so delicate. Otherwise I’d wear them every day! And the hats of that era make me swoon. Looks like it was a fun show!!!! <3
