a vintage exposition
The Vintage Expo was in San Francisco this past weekend. It was the perfect excuse to drive to SF and visit with my friends and run a SF-only errand. It was incredibly hot, which was unexpected, and my hat, nylon blouse and pants were becoming not so comfortable whilst looking through racks and racks of vintage amazingness.
50s nylon blouse with sheer yoke: Thunderhorse Vintage, Sacramento
(I replaced the original buttons with these vintage glass ones from General Bead in San Francisco. If you’re in San Francisco you should pick up this deal for General Bead: $30 to Spend on Beads)
Jil Sander high waisted pants: second-hand via Wasteland, San Francisco
60s heels with ribbon laces: thrifted, Salvation Army, San Francisco
50s blue straw and flower hat: Moon Zoom Vintage, San Jose
60s floral tote: thrifted in Calaveras County
And take heed, vintage expo goers, the above outfit might be darn cute and stylish (IMHO) but it’s not the best for vintage shopping. Too many buttons and zippers that seriously slow down your garments-to-try-on-per-hour time. Plus a button right at my bust fell off and the seam on the seat of my pants ripped. I was suffering from a major wardrobe malfunction. I knew I was going to hang with friends after and I didn’t want to be self-conscious wearing my failed outfit, and the 60s fringed mini cocktail dress I just bought from a vendor was a bit too sexy to walk around the expo in. So I had a new challenge: find a dress for super cheap that I’ll be comfortable in for the rest of the day and night. I ended up finding a perfect number that I’ll surely be wearing on the regular. A 60s white textured linen dress with really cute shoulder detail for $13:
Did any of you SFers go to the expo? What did you score? I was happy with myself for spending under my allotted budget. I walked out with two 60s dresses and a sweet 40s hat.

I love the idea of buying a vintage dress to wear for the rest of the day, some thing I’d do too! Can’t wait to see the other dress you bought, your ’50s shirt is darling (love the sheer yolk).

My dear mary, that bag is such an statement piece. You look adorable in both dresses.
