Ch-ch-ch-changes! For one, I moved to Oakland, CA into a cute studio apartment in a Victorian built in 1908. I’m excited about having my own place, filling it with things that make me happy, exploring a new city, and delving back into what I loved so much about the SF Bay Area – a vibrant comedy scene. My new job couldn’t be going better. I feel so lucky to finally know what it’s like to have a job that doesn’t feel like a job.
But, hey, finding a place to live means more bills and expenses so I’m still pretty broke. Tip for broke people who want nice salon hair cuts: go on Craigslist and search “Free Haircut.” Seriously. It works. There are a lot of salon students that need hair models, and they will cut your locks for freebies. A shampoo, a precise cut, a blowout, little scalp massage, the whole deal. So that’s change numero dos. I don’t have to wear my hair up constantly because the cut I gave myself was so horrifying. As you can see I’ve been wearing it natural a lot. Any of you curly hair gals have products you swear by?
My early Christmas present from my boyfriend is a smart phone so I’ve finally joined in on the Instagram fun. I’ve been posting sneak peeks of my new place:
Are you on Instagram? Let me know so I can follow you.
Anyway, it’s good to be almost back. One of the things I haven’t yet ordered is internet service, but I hope to get that soon so I can catch up on your lovely blogs.

I absolutely LOVE how your hats are displayed. I have been wondering what to do about my ever expanding collection of vintage hats and now I have the perfect solution – thanks!

I love your blog so much! Two of my biggest loves are comedy and vintage style, and so now I’m on your site all the time. Seriously, I spent two days going through everything!
Love the hat display–giving me ideas to work with small spaces!

It’s so cool to hear of someone loving comedy and vintage syle @Jordan! Hearing that makes me want to write about comedy more on here. I just might!

Oodles of happy congrats on your new place, dear Mary, it looks wonderfully charming. When I was a little girl, we lived for a few years in a house built in 1909, and it still holds the distinction of being the oldest home I’ve ever had the pleasure of calling my own. (I just mention this because of how close in age your new abode is to that house).
Your hat collection is stunning! I love that you display them on the wall like that, I do precisely the same thing with many of my vintage hats, too (they’re on the wall in a small upstairs bedroom that’s used as a library of sorts).

So happy to hear you found a place! It looks darling, nice natural lighting (an odd thing to admire maybe, but I live in a basement…)
Also still awesome you enjoy your job, and can rock a green leather mini dress like nobody’s business.

Hey! I’d love to meet up… I’m actually leaving town this week for a MONTH (!) but I really want to meet you. I’ve been thinking about comedy / open mic stuff but it seems terrifying…

I use the Curlesque products for my hair, the creme, the mousse and the serum. A little or each in every application into my damp hair. Smells good, too.
