Getting my nose to the grindstone

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Oh boy, I have major work to do.  In a week I’ll be performing a solo theater piece at The Marsh Theater.  It’s a new thing for me to do and it scares me, so maybe that’s a good thing.  It’ll shake things up a bit.

Keep your nose to the grindstone (to keep working hard).

In colonial America without electricity, the Pilgrims’ main staple food was corn. To get the greatest use from the corn it was ground to a powder known today as cornmeal. The corn kernels were poured in to a stone “bowl” in which the giant wheel (the millstone) rested. The wheel was turned from above by the power of a windmill. In order to get the corn in to the bowl, the “miller” had to pour it in from the back side which made his nose get quite close to the turning millstone.

Pajama Party, Winston Churchill and The Dark Room Theater Sept 5 and 12

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Hello Sweetness,

It’s been a long time, I know.  What have I been doing?  Well, besides making videos like PAJAMA PARTY! and drawing comics for my blog like Winston Churchill and First Quarterly Status Review, I’ve been working on my solo show tentatively titled “What I Hid During Naptime.”  You can see a portion of it as a work-in-progress Wednesday, September 2 at CounterPULSE in San Francisco.  But you know what’s more crazy?  I’m performing at the Dark Room Theater at 2263 Mission in San Francisco on both Saturday, September 5th and Saturday, September 12th!  I asked some of my favorite Bay Area comics to come perform and blow your minds.  Please, please come… tell your friends… byob… buy tickets here… ’twill be DOPE!

Lovenuts,
Mary

I’m looking forward to hosting this show on Friday, June 11 at 7pm at the Swedish American Hall in San Francisco.  If you’re in the Bay Area you should come out.   It’s part fashion show, part music show featuring local designers and local bands.  Foxtails Brigade is one of my favorite bands, and it’s always an absolute pleasure to see them, and I’m very excited to see Lecon de Vetement’s collection.

Shop my Closet and SF Zine Fest

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

A lot going on here at MVN Enterprises.  I’ve been meaning to sell some clothes on Etsy for a long time, and this week I finally starting posting some of the garments.  I hope you guys like them!  The items are clothing that don’t fit me right, and special garments I’ve handpicked for your delight.  There’s a broad range of clothing so far from an impeccable 1950s 2 piece tiki bikini to a 1980s polka dot blouse, a 60s mod sundress to an 80s nautical secretary dress.

Please check out my shop:

I’ll be adding more to the shop within the next few days.

I’ve also been working on getting some goods together for San Francisco Zine Fest.  This will be my third year doing the fest, but I haven’t done the fest in a couple years.  I always have a blast at Zine Fest, so I’m excited about being a part of it.   I’ll have some classic MVN zines for sale, plus a new zine featuring my comic strips.  I’ll also have T-shirts and totes for sale, MVN cross-stitch goodies, and special NSFW zine holder/carriers.  Please come to the fest and visit my table!

San Francisco Zine Fest

Saturday, September 4 from 11:00am – 6:00pm
Sunday, September 5 from 11:00am – 6:00pm
(Labor Day Weekend)

SF County Fair Building
(formerly Hall of Flowers)
9th Ave. at Lincoln Way (in Golden Gate Park) map

As always, the Zine Fest is free and open to the public!  Over 100 smallpress
and DIY creators will be selling, trading, and otherwise sharing their work with over two thousand
attendees.  Please come and be a part of this cool event!

And on top of all that, I’m shooting a short film this weekend.   So I’ve got a lot going on.  YAY!

I’ve got some stand-up shows coming up, too.  You can see my gigs over at my myspace page.
